Borin started off in the guard service of his home city. He showed much skill and quickly started rising through the ranks.
One day while patrolling near the entrance to the undertunnels of his city, Goblin raiders attacked from the tunnels. A local noble and his servants were in the area at the time of the attack. Borin noticed the noble and put himself in front of him and protected him from harm. Borin and his fellow guards drove the goblins back into the tunnels, no harm came to the noble and his servants. The noble was impressed by Borin and requested him to become his personal bodyguard. Borin accepted the most gracious offer.
Borin served his master for several years, until the day the noble was attacked by assassins sent by a rival noble looking to gain political power. Borin was able to slay all of the assassin, but his master was fatally wounded in the battle. Disgraced by the death of his master, Borin leaves his home and ventures to the Northlands to start a new life. One day when stronger, Borin wishes to return home and confront the evil noble who got away with his master’s murder.
